What you should know about the role

Responsible for the oversight of the day-to-day operations of the commercial loan processing department. Provide quality service to members while processing and documenting commercial loans. This position will work closely with other Commercial Lending Managers to ensure lending steps flow effectively and efficiently with the entire lending process and to develop a high performing lending team. This position supports efforts to meet established department goals, member satisfaction, and minimize operational losses.

Major Duties

  • Manage direct reports to maximize productivity, efficiency, and the potential of team members in the commercial loan processing department. This may include directing job assignments, monitoring staff performance, coaching, counseling, training, and keeping focus on core values. Monitor team quality accuracy and efficiency through coaching and mentoring efforts. Train staff for system enhancements and procedure changes.
  • Responsible for managing and directing the loan processing of commercial loans, including gathering supporting loan documents, clearing conditions required for loan closing, preparing loan closing documentation.
  • Ensure adequate processes, procedures, and workflows are in place to meet business and regulatory requirements. Identifies, develops, and recommends revision of internal standards and new programs to improve efficiency. Ensures quantifiable measurements are in place to evaluate overall production levels. Provides staff with clear concise written guidelines and minimizes losses through effective internal controls.
  • Oversees development of staff by coaching and helping team members facilitate problem solving and collaboration. Works with the Cross-Functional Managers to continuously drive progress and add financial value for our members.
  • Develop a team of highly motivated, results-oriented individuals through effective leadership practices; ensure adequate staffing levels to maintain efficient team performance.
  • Provide operational solutions to business challenges and serve as operational subject matter expert.
  • Manage the daily operations of the department and ensure that procedures and practices are in alignment with credit union expectations.
  • Meet established department goals with minimal supervision; update supervisor/leader on all major projects, employee issues and goal progress.
  • Ensure that all loan files comply with all loan policy and federal regulations. Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

Physical Requirements
Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must by capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.

 

Working Conditions
Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise.

 

Mental and/or Emotional Requirements
Must be able to perform job functions with supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations with extreme accuracy. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when
dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines/requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on confidential matters. Ability to be highly mobile and agile in order to move without restriction, including carrying loan file folders and reports.

Skills & Experience

Experience
Five years to eight years of similar or related experience, including commercial loan documentation experience.

 

Education/Certifications/Licenses
A college degree.

 

Interpersonal Skills
A significant level of trust, credibility and diplomacy is required. In-depth dialogues, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors can be of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature. Communications may involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance.

 

Other Skills
Knowledge of State and Federal regulations affecting commercial loans. Knowledge of commercial loan policies, procedures, products, and services.
Legal knowledge of commercial loan documentation is required.
